BEN SAKOGUCHI
THE CAPRICES

In 1799, the Spanish painter Francisco Goya published Los Caprichos (The Caprices), a series of etchings satirizing human folly and weakness.

Inspired by Goya's work, Ben Sakoguchi has begun a painting series entitled "The Caprices."  Sakoguchi has selected and combined images of contemporary American culture, and includes some of Goya's captions, along with other phrases in Spanish.

The 32 paintings reproduced here date from 2003 and 2004.  They are acrylic on canvas, 11 inches x 14 inches.
